I saw an article that your protein tests high in heavy metals.Updated a day ago
We saw the article too and totally understand your concern. Heavy metals in supplements is a real industry-wide issue, and it’s something we take seriously. The short version is this: Consumer Reports tested older lots of our Prime Protein Chocolate from 2024, not any other flavors. We test every single lot of every flavor through an ISO-accredited third-party lab. We are consistently optimizing our supply chain and sourcing to ensure we test as good or better than anyone in the industry. Current lots are well within California Prop 65 limits, the same standard used in the article. Those test results are published right on our product pages and available to anyone who asks (just email us!).
Some helpful context: The Consumer Reports piece compared our chocolate flavor to other brands’ unflavored and vanilla varieties. Cocoa is one of the few whole foods that naturally contains slightly higher trace minerals, just like leafy greens or root vegetables absorb more iron from soil. So chocolate products will always test higher than non-cocoa ones, across every brand, this is true if you compare our Prime Chocolate tests to any other flavor. Even so, our latest tests, run in September 2025, show levels comfortably below Prop 65 thresholds. We take this seriously and have some of the strictest testing and sourcing standards in the supplement industry.
Our commitment to transparency and safety: We test every batch of raw ingredients and finished goods through Light Labs, an ISO-accredited, third-party facility. Those results are independently verified and made available to all customers. Our goal is always to meet and exceed both FDA and California Prop 65 requirements.
Heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium are found naturally in soil and water, even in organic fruits, root vegetables, and cocoa beans. The trace amounts detected in real-food supplements like ours are comparable to what’s found in a nutrient-dense, organic, whole-food diet and remain well within safety limits.
The bottom line: Equip still delivers the cleanest, most transparent real-food protein available. We’ll keep testing every lot, sharing every result listed on our product pages, and holding ourselves to the highest standards because we believe you deserve to know exactly what’s in your product.
